This richly layered candle traces a line from the thrumming laneways of inner-city Melbourne to the wild and rugged shore of Port Phillip Bay, where native flora thrives. A trio of white cypress, wattle and kunzea conjures images of Melbourne’s crisp autumn nights and a delicate geranium leaf note nods to the city’s splendid gardens.

As you set off along one of the Ku Ring Gai's many walking tracks you take in dry grassy plains and open forests of smooth barked apple gums and red bloodwoods before descending to a remote sandy beach through lush mossy trails shrouded by giant tree ferns. Barrenjoey lighthouse beckons while a cool north easterly brings respite from the thick salty haze.

This candle has been created in collaboration with Lennox Hastie, founder and chef behind Firedoor to capture the warmth and energy of sitting around an open fire and to highlight the fragrant beauty of some of the ingredients Lennox cooks with.

Fresh juniper, fruity davana and rich bitter fennel are extended with green violet leaf, while the citrus heart notes from neroli and petitgrain invigorate the senses. Honeyed facets of native kunzea and spicy pimento make way to vibrant sherry-like characteristics from carrot seed, which slowly reveals a base of native buddawood and guaiacwood before being warmed with rich cepes, earthy tobacco and a smokey pairing of choya and vetiver.
